Youth Development Association Conducts Awareness Seminar on Positive Parenting During Crises in Khan Younis
The Youth Development Association conducted an awareness seminar entitled “Positive Parenting During Crises” at Karmel Al-Salam Displacement Camp in Khan Younis, with the participation of a group of mothers. The activity was facilitated and supervised by specialists in child development and positive parenting, as part of the Association’s efforts to support families and strengthen their ability to respond to the challenges children face during displacement and emergency situations.
The seminar aimed to raise mothers’ awareness of positive parenting approaches and introduce them to the psychological and social needs of children during crises, helping families create a safer, more supportive, and nurturing environment for their children.
During the seminar, the specialists addressed a number of key topics, including how to respond to children’s emotions and behaviors during difficult circumstances, the importance of listening and communicating with them, strengthening their sense of safety and reassurance, and avoiding violence and harsh punishment. They also provided practical guidance to help mothers respond to psychological and behavioral changes that may arise as a result of displacement and ongoing stress.
The session also provided a space for dialogue and the exchange of experiences among participants. Mothers discussed the main challenges they face in raising their children in displacement settings and shared practical ideas and approaches that can help children adapt and cope more effectively with the pressures surrounding them.
The Association emphasized the importance of protecting children and supporting their psychological and social well-being, while also empowering families with the knowledge and skills needed to respond to their children’s needs in a positive and safe manner.
This activity is part of a series of awareness and community-based programs implemented by the Youth Development Association across the Gaza Strip in response to the needs of families and children living in displacement camps and shelters, while strengthening the role of families in protecting children and supporting their ability to cope with current circumstances.
