The Youth Development Association (YDA) held an awareness session entitled **“Our Health in Our Tents”** at Ard Al-Tal Camp in Khan Younis. The session addressed the risks associated with sewage and stagnant rainwater in displacement camps and the potential health and environmental hazards they pose to families, particularly with the approaching winter season.

The session focused on raising awareness among women and families about the risks of sewage accumulating near tents and living areas, including unpleasant odors, the proliferation of insects, and increased exposure to disease-causing pathogens. It also highlighted how these risks may worsen during the rainy season as water accumulates within the camp.

Under the slogan, **“Even if our tents are safe, sewage remains a threat to our health,”** participants discussed the main challenges they face, possible ways to address them, and practical measures to reduce their impact. The session emphasized the importance of early community action before the onset of winter and before the situation becomes more severe.

The session resulted in a **women-led community initiative**, through which the participating women will work with their families and other community members to carry out a community campaign aimed at finding a temporary solution to the sewage problem within the camp. The initiative seeks to reduce health and environmental risks and improve the community’s preparedness for the winter season.

This session forms part of YDA’s ongoing efforts to promote health and preventive awareness and to encourage local communities to actively identify the risks affecting them and contribute to developing practical solutions.
